2008/09 Season

Nos praeimus, sequuntur ceteri
We lead, others follow

We would like to welcome all members and interested non-members to this site. We hope that you will find lots of information that is interesting and/or helpful to you.

Season 2008-09 is almost on us. What are your goals for next season? What do you need to start doing NOW to make those goals a reality? What can your Association do to assist?

What are you doing TODAY to assist in improving your performance for next season? Talk to your mentor. Challenge yourself to achieve your perfomance goals - and then exceed them.

Our Annual Convention will be held at Riverside Oaks Golf Resort next Saturday and Sunday (23 and 24 August). I have seen the programme and it looks like a great weekend. I can particularly recommend it to the many new members who have recently applied to join the Association - there are several sessions specifically designed to help your transition into our ranks.

There is no better umpiring experience than the opportunity to work in Sydney Grade Cricket week in and week out. The standard of cricket is high and there are currently unprecedented opportunities to progress through the grades if your performances are high enough. And who knows - that young leggie bowling from your end in fourth grade just might be the next Shane Warne - and you were there to watch him kickstart his career.

We hope that this page provides an insight into our association and keeps you up-to-date with happenings in Sydney and Country umpiring and scoring, as well as items of interest from around the world. Check in regularly.

Cricket Australia has released the names of the umpires and referees for the Bangladesh tour to be played in Darwin in August and September.

An 'Umpiring Techniques' manual was released by the International Institute of Cricket Umpiring and Scoring (IICUS) on the internet late last week.  IICUS says that the manual "gives advice on the art of umpiring, [and] how the umpire should handle himself and others in dealing with the multitude of varying situations which can arise during a cricket match".

news City 2 Surf - how did you go?

Your webmaster, far right, BEFORE the walk
Your webmaster, far right, BEFORE the walk
Well, another City 2 Surf fun run is over. (How can they call it a "fun" run when I feel like I do this morning??) I finished in what will be a record time for me - thanks more to the more efficient timing method introduced this year than any great effort on my part.
Our USA-born member, Bob Zehner is the first to check in. His 109.28 mins leaves my 156 mins for dead - but it is the 27th time Bob has completed the event. Wow! Murray Verran struggled to the end under an injury cloud but still managed a time of 82 minutes.
Anyone else want to let the members know how you did?? Read the full article
