CHINA EARTHQUAKE - SICHUAN PROVINCE
Vikings Futsal Association Inc staff, family and friends would like to express our heartfelt wishes of safety and a quick recovery to those effected by the recent Earthquake that has struck the Sichuan Province in China.
The disaster has effected areas many of us ourselves and several tour groups over the past three years have visited. Since the shock we have spoken with our host Li Jing and he reports:
"We are alright. Chengdu City is quite safe and solid, but the area that the first 16 girls tour visited in the mountains is probably severly damaged. The roads and communication have been cut off and today i saw the aerial pictures and the road to the villiage was totally vanished. The earthquake stricken area is about 300km with large population, however, all the schools that we visited [April 2008 Tour] are in good condition."
For tour members on the recent Vikings April China Tour this is good news knowing that the schools, players and students they came into contact with have not received the full brunt of the disaster. Again our wishes go out to their families and friends in the hope that they have not been in the areas mostly effected by the quake.
There is another scheduled Vikings tour to China in October of 2008. The earthquake should have no ill effect on the arrangements of this tour as Li Jing has mentioned that the areas we now regularly visit were lucky enough not to be effected too much by this tragedy. We hope to be able to visit and support the people of Chengdu as they rebuild in the nearby regions and provide the relationships and Australian spirit that our players bring with them during our visits.
Several appeals have been opened for those wishing to make donations for the relief effort being put forth during this hard time. Australian DalPonte Vikings China Futsal Tours 
Since 2005 Vikings International Tours have been sending Australian DalPonte Vikings teams to visit our friends in Chengdu, China. Vikings were the first foreign futsal teams to tour the ancient country of 1.2 billion people and are always warmly welcomed. Our tours past success means we have also been invited back for 2007.
Beginning with an inaugural 16 Boys tour in 2005 and recently welcoming back the inaugural Girls tour of October 2006 the China tour is fast becomming one of our most exciting, memorable and fullfilling futsal tours.
Incorporating a days sightseeing in Beijing you can now also experience the world famous Great Wall of China, Forbidden City and Tienanmen Square before continuing onto Chengdu where you are based for the duration of the tour.
After a two day training camp in Brisbane you'll depart on a Thursday. We change planes at Singapore and then arrive in Beijing for a full day of sightseeing before catching a late night flight to Chengdu.
Chengdu , with a population of 13 million , is the capital of the province of Sichuan , which has a population of 98 million. It is located at the foot of the Himalayan Mountains.
During your stay you'll play a futsal tournament and many more games against Chinese regional teams and schools. The players are always warmly welcomed and end up with sore hands from signing autographs as well as sore bodies from all the training and playing enjoyed by all! In amongst games, training and tournaments we make sure there is also plenty of sightseeing to experience also.
The sightseeing is breathtaking. Visit the BIG BUDDHA, see the Panda Centre where Pandas are being bred in captivity, the ancient city which is the excavations of the oldest known civilisation in the world, see the Buddists Monks at the Country Monastry, spend 2 days in the mountains of the Tibetan plateau seeing golden monkeys and pandas in the wild and spend Sunday in the peoples park, similar to our Dreamworld. And of course there is the shopping. China is very cheap and there are plenty of shops and markets.
Supporters and non players are welcome to take part and they are involved in all the activites the players are. If you want to extend your stay you are most welcome as Vikings futsal also has a travel agents licence and we can arrange all details.
